Southgate Squash & Racketball Club

Southgate Squash and Racketball Club have undergone enormous change in the last 12-18 months.

An online booking system with Touchscreen (Jan ’08) and brand new up-to-date website.

All our 6 courts are now fully functional with heating, lights, walls and flooring recently maintained and upgraded (April 2009). This includes 2 courts with new front walls (July 2008) – one of which is specially adapted glass (the only one in this country) which is used as a demo court across the whole of England Squash & Racketball Association.

A new balcony stand has improved viewing for matches and tournaments.

England Squash & Racketball (ES&R)Association have supported SSRC by presenting them with their ES&R National Club of the Year Award 2008 – Silver Accreditation (bronze = ClubMark status) at the Manchester World Open Championships (October 2008).

Tournaments, Training and Coaching sessions have been hosted by SSRC on their behalf.

SSRC is home club to England’s Alison Waters (World No. 6) and England No. 2. Alison started playing at the club when she was 5. She is a dedicated role model for everyone, but particularly to juniors wishing to aspire to her level. Visit Alison’s website for more information www.alisonwaters.com.

A different England Squad Squash age category is also represented at Southgate with vets player Mark Cowley.

The club is a friendly social and family set up, accommodating juniors at all levels – from Saturday afternoon (term time) group coaching (beginners to intermediates) as well as our popular National Coach (also Alison’s coach) – Paul Carter for the advanced players – juniors and seniors.

Additional ES&R qualified coaches supplement our set-up – including semi professional squash player Adam Fuller.

Socials are frequently organised including tournaments with Music, food and BBQ for Club Finals Night, Quiz Nights, Burns Suppers, Summer party etc.

Racketball is a popular game which is an ‘easy / gentle’ bit of fun for the beginners, a ‘fast and furious’ game for the experts, a ‘god send’ to those injured / out of condition / too old for squash and not least of all a truly fun and laughable game when ‘doubles’ is played. Racketball has become a recent formal addition to England Squash.

Southgate SRC has been working in partnership with local councils, schools and colleges in promoting ‘playing of sport’ (squash and racketball) in the local community.

We are a ‘Club For All’ confirmed by our recent 2 holiday schemes for Deaf / Partial Hearing Juniors (courtesy of Capital Radio – Help A London Child grant).

Monday Club Night is just one way of trialling us – but just give us a ring (07904 300288) or email ssrccommittee@yahoo.co.uk and arrange a viewing / guided tour / friendly game. Come see for yourself.
