Southgate Rugby Club

Established over 80 years ago Southgate Rugby club as part of the old Standard Telephones and Cables (then Nortel), we have now established ourselves at the Walker Ground in the heart of Southgate.
Southgate plays rugby union during the winter months in both competitive and friendly matches. Amateur rugby remains a sport for people of all ages, shapes and sizes and Southgate is no different. Our playing ages are from 18 to 60 and we run both regular teams and veterans teams for those “of a certain age”.
Southgate RFC is affiliated to the Rugby Football Union and as such members of the club get access to our ballots for international tickets.
In the local community we play a key role at many of the local events, including the Walker Ground fireworks night and the Southgate May Day festivities where we run a number of stands as well as being involved in its organisation. In addition we organise many events in and around the Southgate area including comedy nights, quiz nights, pre and post season BBQ,s and an annual dinner dance / club night.
A key event in our calendar is the traditional Easter tour when the club visits tournaments and clubs in the UK or overseas and builds camaraderie. Recent venues have included Newquay, Amsterdam, Edinburgh, Torquay, Salou (Spain), and Leiden.
We train on Wednesday evenings, and play Saturday afternoons. Many of our players had never played before joining us – and have now found their vocation.
