Tottenham Hotspur at The Walker Ground

First Team players including Roman Pavlyuchenko and Heurelho Gomes will be making special appearances at selected Tottenham Hotspur Soccer Schools this Easter.*

Coaches at the below locations will be accompanied by player, for a limited time, on one of the scheduled training days.

January signing Eidur Gudjohnsen will travel to Broxbourne Sports Club, Mill Lane, running on Thursday April 8 and Friday April 9.

Goalkeeper Gomes will travel to the Upminster course at Coopers School, St Mary’s Lane, on either Thursday April 8 or Friday April 9.

Midfielder David Bentley is scheduled to visit the Walker Cricket Ground in Southgate, Enfield, on the course running from Monday April 12 to Friday April 16.

Defender Younes Kaboul will appear at Chigwell School’s course running from Monday April 12 to Friday April 16.

And the free-scoring ‘Super Pav’ will travel to the Harvesters venue in St Albans with the course running on Thursday April 15 and Friday April 16.

Tottenham Hotspur Soccer Schools are for boys and girls aged 5-14 of all abilities looking to learn general soccer skills and techniques during the school holidays.

Ground Update 26th March 2010

Our Main Pavilion has begun an internal decor uplift programme with the bar now being managed by Mr Rob Lowry – who personally recommends trying the new cask ales, whilst enjoying the Sky / Setanta Sports – Football World Cup, Cricket, Wimbledon etc.

The upgrade of the tennis court surfaces and NEW Floodlights provide a better surface and extended evening availability for both tennis and netball for the Weld Lawn Tennis Club and other users such as Palmers Green High School. The tennis pavilion is also undergoing improvements both internall and externally.

Our caterer, Sue, will soon be providing a Sunday lunch service – please come and visit.

Walker Ground Boasts Two National Champions

Sunday 14th February 2010 will go down as a momentous day in the Walker Grounds one hundred year history as two of its members became British Champions.

Alison Waters and Mark Cowley of Southgate Squash Club both came away with titles at the British National Squash Championships held at Sportcity in Manchester last weeked. Alison won the Women’s Title and Mark the Men’s Over 55 event.

Both matches will probably go down as the most exciting of the thirteen finals that took place that day, with Alison (World Number 5) and Mark both finding themseleves with ‘Match Ball’ down at various times. Mark (England Over 55 No 1) was actually 2-0 down in games and 6-1 down in points and clawed his way back to win in what must have been one of the biggest ‘comebacks’ of the tournament.

The Walker Ground Trustees and membership would like to congratulate Mark and Alison on their terrfiic achievements.

Youth Opportunity Funding in Enfield (YOFE) – TENNIS

YOFE have contributed immensely to the Walker Ground – Southgate Weld Tennis Project (Phase 1) recently.

The TENNIS facilities for Youth in Enfield (13-19 years) have received additional funding to provide new court surfaces (4 tennis courts) and a wonderful practise board.

These will be used in particular to encourage more young persons into the playing of tennis, in particular, promotional courses will be made available for local deaf / partial hearing juniors who recently benefitted from squash coaching courses at Southgate Squash & Racketball Club (also part of the Walker Ground).

The improved facilities will also be used for the promotion of netball (lines overlaying those of the tennis courts) – targeted for young sports players. The Walker Ground is planning to celebrate with a netball rally.

The court surfaces faced a delay in full use due to the recent heatwave, which started to melt the recently laid tarmac and shoes were sticking.

Future phases of developments in mind are floodlights (subject to planning permission) and astro / carpet surfacing (both subject to finances).

The complete Walker Ground – Southgate Weld Tennis Project would also like to thank Palmers Green High School, Arthur Ashby Foundation, Asda, private donator, Lawn Tennis Association and members of the Weld Tennis club – as well as YOFE (Pink Ross and her enthusiastic young team).
