‘Volunteers Day’ – 14th May 2009

A group of 40 most welcome helpers volunteered to assist a clean-up project, organised by Vickie Prow (Southgate SRC), on Thursday 14th May, at The Walker Ground.

These young employees from company Ipsos Mori provided labour for the following areas with Vickie, Mike O’Flynn,  Nick Teeling and Lorna Empson leading.

  • Male and female changing room cleaning, squash balcony painting (courts 5+6), car park clearing / pruning, back of pavilion courtyard clearing and Committee room cleaning / painting. A huge overflowing skip was the evidence.
  • Follow-up painting was completed by Mike.

A huge thank you was received from the Trustees and staff. Refreshments (Lynda & Becky) welcomed these volunteers at the start, as well as throughout the day but they still had some energy for a football kick-ups team game on the wonderful Walker grounds.

ANNOUNCEMENT: ‘2009 Fireworks Display is 7th November’

The Southgate fireworks display will be returning for another year on Saturday 7th November 2009, bringing one of the best-loved displays to Enfield, North London. This perennial favourite Southgate fireworks display at the Walker Cricket Ground looks set to be just as popular and every bit as magnificent, as proved in 2008 – specifically for the local community there will also be Displays and side stalls.

A firm favourite
It’s not only fireworks at the Southgate fireworks display, but they are the reason that everyone keeps coming back. Prepare to get your best ooohs and aaahs at the ready as the catherine wheels, roman candles, rockets and more shoot up into the air and ensure that the Southgate fireworks display remains one of North London’s best displays.

Traditional display
Fireworks and bonfires are such a great tradition and offer the perfect antidote to both the clocks going back and the onset of the colder weather. You can’t beat wrapping up warm, getting out into the autumn air and keeping the hands warm with a cup of hot soup or mulled wine, and this display at Walker Cricket Ground will enable you to do exactly that in a family-friendly atmosphere.

Much more too
Visitors to the display can also expect to enjoy a whole host of other great autumnal delights. There is likely to be mulled wine, food stalls, a glow in the dark children’s toy stall, children’s rides, bouncy castle and a fully licensed bar, as well as the possibility of an additional Speciality show which offers a great addition to the impressive fireworks. And if you want to bring your little ones, remember that children under 4 go free.
